Our Mission at New Roots
New Roots California empowers underrepresented youth to grow through mentorship in sports and academics, fostering leadership, resilience, and a sense of community. By combining athletic development with personalized academic support, we aim to inspire the next generation to embrace their potential, celebrate their cultural identity, and break barriers in fields where they are underrepresented.
Our Impact
Making a Difference
New Roots California began with just a few neighborhood kids receiving basketball training, but it quickly grew into something far more impactful. What started as simple sports coaching expanded into a community initiative that supports academic growth, provides resources for educators, and empowers underrepresented youth. As the program grew, we were able to raise donations to purchase essential supplies for kindergarten classrooms and special education teachers, ensuring that even the youngest and most vulnerable students had the tools they needed to succeed. Through tutoring, we’ve helped students of all ages improve their academic performance, while also expanding our mentorship to support kids in other sports, encouraging both physical and personal development. New Roots has become a safe space for immigrants and underrepresented groups, providing guidance and opportunities to break barriers in fields where they may not see themselves represented, making a lasting difference in their lives and their communities.
